It would still work for making creme brulee, I think, though you'd want to do it from a distance while wearing appropriate safety goggles. I've been tempted to get one for when cars drive too close to me when I'm out on the roads.

Best invention ever! I've brulee'd most everything in my house since I got mine. I think my favorite remains the simple banana, split, sugared, and torched.

Why avoid the lecture? It's certainly easy to lecture poorly, in which case it's boring and minimally productive, but telling stories is one of the most basic forms of teaching, isn't it?

The Tanakh as a whole is probably the second-most awesome collection of writings - but might be the most awesome to teach. The peppering of photos made me jealous of your scenery. I saw A & S & Bear today and all say hello (the latter with a courteously subdued half-bark).

Not even my favorite students have brought me candy, so I'm jealous about that too.

Fine-lookin' peppers! I've been roasting some from my garden, but have never managed photos that look anywhere near so good.

Those look really good! By the way, Fuschia Dunlop suggests (rightly - I tried it at a dinner party and it was amazing) pairing roasted red peppers with Thousand Year Old Egg (sliced). The combination in flavors and textures is awesome, and the color contrast is amazing too.
